2008 National 4-H Congress Applications due July 1

Applications for county delegates planning to attend National 4-H Congress are due in the State 4-H office by July 1, 2008. Counties are to select their own delegates, as there is no further screening at the state level. For more information go to:
http://www.colorado4h.org/events_opportunities/nat_congress/

Applicants are to check with school and/or employers prior to submitting their applications. The dates for this year’s trip are Nov. 28 – Dec. 2, in Atlanta, GA. We make no guarantees that late cancellation will be accepted without financial penalty. Trip deposits will not be refunded. — Ellen Butler

Host Families Needed

Attached is a list of IFYEs (International Four-H Exchange Program) for whom we need two- to three-week homestays. Each delegate would have three-to four-families. This program was started in 1948 after World War II, starting before the Peace Corp. Since these delegates are older, they do not have to have adult supervision at all times. As described in their bios, they are interested in a variety of subjects. Please let me know if you are interested in hosting. Thank you.

4-H Foundation Update

The 4-H Foundation has experienced a lot of change in the last few months and I thought you might like an update.

  1. Shami Loose resigned as the Foundation Administrative Assistant on April 2. She was able to move to a position within the Biomedical Sciences Department which was a great opportunity for her.
  2. Patti Nash was hired as the new Administrative Assistant on May 5. She is a very personable and capable person and is learning the job quickly. You will enjoy working with her.
  3. On May 15 the 4-H Foundation Offices moved to University Square located near the intersection of College Avenue and Pitkin Street. Our new mailing address is 4040 Campus Delivery.
  4. The 2007 Annual Report is being printed and should be mailed next week. Murdoch's did the layout again and has produced a high quality product.
  5. The Ford Truck Raffle seems to be going well. The vehicle has been in Adams, Larimer, Boulder, Denver, El Paso, Bent, Pueblo and Fremont counties. Nearly 400 tickets have been sold.
  6. The Paul Hoshiko Jr. Memorial 4-H Golf Tournament was held June 6 and was a great success. Two hundred and forty eight (248) people played and we should make a nice profit. A special thank you goes to the Board members, golf committee and volunteers who helped with this event.
  7. Plans are moving forward for the Metro Area Supports 4-H (MASH) Gala being held Oct. 11, 2008 at the Wings Over the Rockies Air and Space Museum in Denver.
  8. The next Foundation board meeting will be Thursday, June 26, at the Lory Student Center on the Colorado State University campus.

Thanks to all of you for your service to the Colorado 4-H Foundation. Please contact me if you have questions or concerns. — Gary Small

4-H Update Now Available As RSS Feed

RSS iconWe have been further considering ways of communicating with 4-H Members, 4-H Agents, the general public, and anyone else who may be utilizing our website. RSS feeds are a great way to communicate with people because with RSS/XML content, the information comes to directly to you so that you don't have to spend valuable time locating news and information online. If you are not sure what RSS is all about, read about it here. We are considering creating separate RSS feeds that would target specific groups, such as a feed for agents, a feed for members, a feed for general news, etc. Please feel free to provide feedback to darrin.goodman@colostate.edu in regards to our use of RSS feeds; I'd like to know if you feel that this is something that you might use. Look for the standard RSS icon (as seen above) in our right-side navigation menu to take you to our feed page: http://www.colorado4h.org/rss/feed.xml
