Artistic Clothing / Clothing Buymanship >> Style of Your Own—Discovering Choices [ Unit 8 Intermediates ]

This unit is for member’s ages 11-13. Are you interested in making smart clothing decisions? Are you interested in organizing a community service project about clothing? This project will help you figure out how to take charge of your clothing decisions and define your own style. A member may stay in this project for 2-3 years. To finish the project all 16 session need to be completed. Members will accomplish the following learning experiences:

  • Define what your style is
  • Learn how to make good decision when buying clothing
  • Learn about proportion and balance
  • Learn more about your personality traits and physical characteristics
  • How to do a budget
  • How to do wardrobe planning

General Exhibit Requirements:

Project Exhibit Rules for All Units

Project Exhibit Rules:

  • Requirement: All exhibit garments must be labeled with name, age, and county and unit of the 4-H member. Labels must be attached at the inside of the neckline or at the waistband of skirts and pants. Information must be written on a label and securely attached to garment or article. This will assist in case of property loss.
  • Garments may be worn before exhibiting but should be in good, clean condition.
  • An exhibit shall consist of no more than three coordinated pieces. (No accessory items, i.e. shoes, jewelry, hats, etc.)
  • Pattern “instruction sheet” is required (if one was used) and must be attached securely to the e-record in a sturdy binder/notebook. Do not use covers that are clear plastic with sliders.
  • Members are encouraged to select a unit that challenges their skills. All units will be judged on required skills included in the manual.
  • Note: All Colorado State Fair silk items or garments will be displayed only with “permission to display” form which acknowledges possible fading caused by state fair display lighting. Permission to display form is available at the Extension offices.

Exhibit will consist of the following:

  1. Completed e-Record and completed manual presented in a sturdy binder/notebook. Include in the project story where you got the idea for your project, what you liked best about the project, and what you would like to change.
  2. Describe what you learned from the Stepping Out activities you completed this year. Include the activity number, title of activity, and what you learned in the e-Record on the Specific Project Information page.
  3. Describe the two Looking Good activities that you completed. Include what you learned from the activities you chose not to exhibit in the e-Record on the Specific Project Information page.
  4. One display board illustrating one of the Looking Good activities from the manual. The standardized display board size is 4' x 3' with sides that do not overlap, is to be used for 4-H projects.
