4-H Forestry Project

Forests abound in Colorado---from the cedars on the eastern plains to the pines of the western slope and everything in between. Through the 4-H forestry project, you will discover how important these forests are to our state. You will also learn about forest ecology and how we rely on forest products. You will explore the relationship between trees, people and communities.

Step 3: Select Your Project

Unit 1 Follow the Path

This unit is for members ages 8-18 years old. Members will accomplish the following learning experiences:

  • Lean about different trees and tree parts
  • Explore what trees need to grow and thrive
  • What products do people get from forests?

Unit 2 Reach for the Canopy

This unit is for members ages 8-18 years old. Members will accomplish the following learning experiences:

  • Investigate forest changes and learn about forest health.
  • Discover the health benefits trees have on people

Unit 3 Explore the Deep Woods

This unit is for members ages 8-18. Members will accomplish the following learning experiences:

  • Examine and distinguish different types of trees
  • Investigate forests on a global scale
  • Learn forest conservation techniques

Colorado State Fair and Local County Fair Exhibit Requirements

General Exhibit Requirements:

All exhibits will consist of the following:

  1. Completed manual and e-record presented in a sturdy binder/notebook including these items: appropriate sections in the manual completed, e-record and other drawings or attachments related to activities in the manual.
  2. A display board displaying information related to activities in project manual. The standardized display board size 4' x 3' is to be used for 4-H projects.

Note: There is a Forestry Helper’s Guide that contains forestry group activities.
