4-H Wildlife Project
Colorado’s wildlife is one of our state’s biggest attractions. Through your work in this project, you will learn about wildlife behavior, habitat requirements, how wildlife species fit into nature’s scheme, how they are managed, and how they relate to humans.
Step 3: Select Your Project
Note: 4-H members are encouraged to select the Wildlife units in which they are most interested and are able to complete the related activities
Unit 1 Exploring Wildlife
This unit is for member’s ages 8-18 years old. Members will accomplish the following learning experiences:
- Select and complete field activities
- Record your exploration and observations
Unit 2 Small Game
This unit is for member’s ages 8-18 years old. Members will accomplish the following learning experiences:
- Select and complete field activities
- Record your explorations and observations
Unit 3 Waterfowl
This unit is for member’s ages 8-18 years old. Members will accomplish the following learning experiences:
- Select and complete field activities
- Record your explorations and observations
Unit 4 Big Game
This unit is for member’s ages 8-18 years old. Members will accomplish the following learning experiences:
- Select and complete field activities
- Record your explorations and observations
Unit 5 Furbearers
This unit is for member’s ages 8-18 years old. Members will accomplish the following learning experiences:

Unit 6 Song Birds and Birds of Prey
This unit is for member’s ages 8-18 years old. Members will accomplish the following learning experiences:

Colorado State Fair and Local County Fair Exhibit Requirements
All exhibits will consist of the following:
- Completed e-Record presented in a sturdy binder/notebook.
- Prepare a wildlife experience and put it in the e-Record on the page title Specific Project Information. Include the date, location, wildlife activity, what you did, how it relates to wildlife and describe what happened. Click here for a template to use.
- A display board related to the unit of enrollment. (No wooden display cases.) The standardized display board size 4' x 3' is to be used for 4-H projects.
